Emoji Meaning

A person tipping their hand by their shoulder as if they’re carrying a tray of drinks or flipping their hair. Originally called Information Desk Person.

This emoji is commonly used to express sassiness or sarcasm.

While no gender is specified, many early designs displayed this emoji as a woman. Google’s 2014 design shows a blob wearing white gloves and a pillbox hat. Microsoft’s 2015 design shows a woman doing this gesture while winking, a facial expression that further reinforces the sassy and sarcastic uses of this emoji.

Person Tipping Hand was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 under the name “Information Desk Person” and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
