A medical syringe, as used to administer a vaccine or draw blood. Generally depicted at a 45° angle with a needle to the upper right.
Commonly used for content concerning health, medicine, and related professions as well as various senses of needles, drugs, tattoos, blood, or more recently – coronavirus vaccination.
Originally used for the representation of blood donation, and displayed with blood in the barrel. In 2021 most platforms are switching to a more general-purpose empty syringe. Google and Facebook’s designs previously featured green liquids.
Syringe was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
๐ฉ Design change: previously shown with blood. Updated in 2021 to show with an empty barrel on major platforms, making this emoji more useful for representing vaccination.
